  1. Stress is a prevalent factor among majority of university students. It can lead to severe diseases such as cardiac failure, high blood pressure, and stomach ulcers. Using aromatherapy can reduce stress as well as treat psychological, physiological, and physical strains. Aromatherapy is the therapeutic use of essential oils from plants. Essential oils can be absorbed into the body by smell, ingesting, or through the skin.
Lavender is a well known essential oil for reducing stress. It can also be used for muscle pain, and antiseptic for small cuts. Because of its many uses, Lavender is also known as the universal oil. Another very useful, but more expensive, oil that is useful for university students is rose oil. Rose oil can be costly because 1 ounce of rose oil contains 60,000 roses. It can be used to relieve depression as well as stress. Frankincense stimulates the pituitary gland and hypothalamus. It contains properties which lowers anxiety and depression. Lastly, Jasmine oil is useful for creating optimistic feelings as well as relaxation, and relieving headaches. Using this would be a great pick-me-up!
When purchasing your essential oils make sure it is 100% pure essential oil. Perfumes and artificial fragrance oils may not have the same healing properties. Some perfumes and artificial fragrance oils contain chemicals that can be harmful to your body. Because essential oils are extremely concentrated, it should be blended with a carrier oil such as jojoba oil. Jojoba oil comes from the jojoba shrub that grows in Mexico. It can be directly applied to the skin, which can benefit chapped skin, sunburns, hair growth, and acne.
During the stressful season of final exams, trying essential oils may be beneficial in controlling our levels of stress!
